PAINTER GUILTY OF EXPOSING HIMSELF IN ABERDEENSHIRE
A painter who publicly exposed his genitals at a pensioner during work at her home attempted to justify his actions by claiming he was simply playing with a piece of sandpaper.David Grant denied exposing himself in front of the shocked 69-year-old woman at a farm property in Aberdeenshire and faced trial at Aberdeen Sheriff Court.However, the court quickly dismissed his bizarre explanation after a voicemail was played, in which Grant himself admitted: “I just took it a bit too far”.The victim testified that during the incident, she was "not entirely comfortable with some of the things he was saying" while Grant was working at her property in October 2020.She also recounted that Grant mentioned that a zip on his overalls was broken and his wife hadn't fixed it yet.She later reported that Grant had followed her to a shed, lifted his pocket filled with tools, and exposed his penis, leaving her in "total shock".
She immediately returned to her house and locked the door.
Grant later came to her door, apologized, and said: “I’m sorry about what happened earlier.”During cross-examination, the defense suggested she might have mistaken his genitals for sandpaper.
She firmly denied this, stating: "No, he was definitely exposed."A voicemail recorded by Grant was played in court, in which he said: “Hi Sean, if you give me a call back.
I don’t know what to say.
I’m a stupid f***er and I’m really sorry.
I just took it a bit too far.”The court found Grant guilty of intentionally exposing his genitals.
The sheriff stated that the victim was very distressed and that there was clear evidence supporting her account.
The sentence was deferred pending a social work report, and the sheriff would consider whether Grant should be placed on the sex offenders register.
