DAVID EVANS CAUGHT LOOKING AT CHILD INDECENT IMAGES IN LLANELLI AND LLANWRDA DAYS AFTER COURT APPEARANCE

In a disturbing sequence of events, David Evans, a man with a known history of sexual offenses, was found viewing indecent images of children in the towns of Llanelli and Llanwrda, just days before and after he appeared in court. The incidents highlight the ongoing issues surrounding the monitoring and behavior of convicted sex offenders even after legal proceedings.

Evans, aged 40, pleaded guilty to four separate charges related to possessing indecent photographs of a child at Llanelli Magistrates' Court. The charges spanned over a period, with offenses admitted on November 18, 2014, and additional incidents on November 30, 2014, and December 3, 2014. The court was informed that these offenses occurred in close temporal proximity to his court appearances, raising concerns about his compliance with legal restrictions.

Prosecutor Sian Vaughan detailed the circumstances of Evans' initial arrest, which was carried out following a warrant executed at his residence. She explained that Evans had been posing as a 13-year-old male online to engage in sexually explicit exchanges and to view inappropriate images. During the arrest, authorities recovered multiple electronic devices from his home, which were later examined for evidence.

The court further learned that Evans, a resident of Ffald Y Brennin in Llanwrda, had already appeared at Carmarthen Crown Court on November 20, 2014, where he was registered as a sex offender. Despite this, law enforcement officers conducted a subsequent search of his property in 2014, during which they recovered additional images from his mobile phone. The evidence indicated that Evans accessed the illicit images on November 18, 2014, just two days before his sentencing, and continued to view more images after his court appearance. This pattern of behavior was considered particularly serious because it demonstrated a blatant disregard for the restrictions imposed on him, especially given that he was subject to a sexual offences order at the time.

During the court proceedings, solicitor Steve John offered mitigation, noting that Evans had entered a guilty plea and that his progress, as reflected in a probation report, appeared to be positive. Despite this, the court acknowledged the gravity of his actions, especially considering the timing of the image viewing in relation to his sentencing.

Evans was subsequently transferred to Swansea Crown Court for sentencing, scheduled for May 6. He has been released on unconditional bail pending the outcome of that hearing, but the case underscores the ongoing challenges faced by authorities in monitoring convicted offenders and preventing further offenses.
