DAVID ELLIOTT SENTENCED FOR ABUSING SEVEN-YEAR-OLD GIRL IN NOTTINGHAM AND SKEGNESS

In March 2013, a man named David Elliott was sentenced to 13 years in prison after being convicted of multiple serious sexual offenses involving a young girl. Elliott, who previously owned a sandwich shop on the Broxtowe Estate in Nottingham, was found guilty of abusing a seven-year-old girl in a series of disturbing incidents that spanned over a period of time.

According to court proceedings, Elliott persuaded the young girl to perform sexual acts on him and also physically touched her inappropriately. The Nottingham Crown Court heard that the abuse did not stop there; it escalated to the point where Elliott attempted to rape the girl when she was only ten years old. Despite denying all charges, Elliott was convicted following a trial held in January, and the sentencing took place the following day.

During the sentencing, Recorder Nicholas Dean QC emphasized the severity and the ongoing nature of Elliott’s crimes. He stated, "It’s impossible to say how many offences were carried out," highlighting the extent of the abuse. Elliott was found guilty of four counts of sexually assaulting a child under 13, four counts of causing or inciting a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity, two counts of indecency with a child, two counts of indecent assault, and one count of attempted rape.

The judge described the profound impact of Elliott’s actions on the victim, noting her feelings of dirtiness and shame as she grew older and understood the wrongfulness of what had happened. He remarked, "She says she felt dirty and later, when she began to understand these things were wrong, she felt ashamed."

Addressing Elliott directly, who was previously residing in Aspley and Bulwell but at the time of sentencing listed as living in Skegness, the judge expressed concern about the lasting damage caused. He said, "It’s hoped your conviction and sentence I impose will mean she can begin to put this period in her life behind her," acknowledging the long-term effects of his actions.

As a result of his conviction, Elliott will be registered as a sex offender for life. He is expected to serve half of his 13-year sentence before being eligible for parole to serve the remainder. Following the hearing, the girl’s aunt expressed her satisfaction with the sentence, stating, "At least he won’t be hurting other children where he is."

The girl, now attending college, conveyed through her aunt her desire to support other victims of sexual abuse. She encouraged others to seek help, saying, "There is support out there. It’s hard and it’s a long process, but whoever is going through it should speak to a social worker, a teacher or someone they can trust."
