LEEDS MAN ACCUSED OF DEATH THREATS AND STALKING EX VIA WHATSAPP
A man bombarded his ex with WhatsApp messages then allegedly followed her to her workplace in a bid to get the charges dropped against him, a court heard.David Dykes pleaded not guilty to harassment and intimidating a witness when he appeared at Kirklees Magistrates' Court.
The court was told that he sent his former partner a 'significant number' of texts and WhatsApp messages between December 2016 and February 2017 after their relationship ended.
Charles Macrae, prosecuting, said that these messages contained threats of violence towards the victim and her family.
The 36-year-old allegedly told her that they were all dead and threatened to smash up her house and kill himself if she didn't answer his calls.
He is said to have driven past the victim's home several times and knocked on her door.
She changed her number but Dykes got her new number and continued messaging her, Mr Macrae said.
Magistrates were told that he then turned up at the complainant's place of work in Queensgate Market.
On March 14 2017 she walked into work and saw Dykes watching her, Mr Macrae said.
He called her name three times and said that he would leave her alone if she got the criminal charges dropped.
Dykes, of Copperfield Mount in Leeds, was told that his trial will be held at the Huddersfield court on June 5.
He was granted unconditional bail in the meantime.
