DISGRACED FIFE ARCHITECT GUILTY OF ATTEMPTED RAPE AND ABUSE IN DUNDEE
A man named David Dow, aged 53, from Ceres, has been found guilty at the Dundee High Court of multiple charges including attempted rape, sexual assault, controlling behavior, and abuse over a period of more than seven years.During the trial, jurors convicted him of six charges related to both physical and sexual abuse of a woman, including shouting, swearing, abusive behavior, and harassment.
They also found he followed the woman around a property, accessed her emails and social media, sent intimate messages and images falsely claiming they were from her, and engaged in physical violence such as striking her with a remote control and throwing a pint glass, which caused injuries.
Furthermore, Dow was convicted of making derogatory remarks about a child and sending a woman an explicit image of nudity and bondage in 2019.
At times when the woman was asleep, Dow attempted to sexually assault her, including acts to rape when she was unconscious.
The court heard how Dow's controlling actions extended to following her, invading her privacy, and abusing her emotionally and physically.
The verdict caused emotional reactions in the courtroom as women in the gallery were tearful.
The judge ordered Dow to be remanded in custody while awaiting sentencing, which will be deferred until a social work report is prepared.
He was also placed on the sex offenders register temporarily.
In addition to this criminal conviction, Dow was previously struck off as an architect in October 2024 by the Architects Registration Board for unacceptable professional conduct related to a botched house extension, involving incorrect fitting of steel beams, which rendered the house unsafe.
Dow showed a lack of insight and sought to blame others for the failings.
As he was found guilty of serious sexual offenses, he is classified under the category of Sexual Abuser.
