OFFENDER JAILED FOR RAPE AFTER THREATENING VICTIM WITH CUSHION
A man named David Dayman (43) has been convicted of raping a woman he knew after visiting her home to return a borrowed top.During the incident, he threatened to smother her with a cushion if she screamed.
Dayman claimed the sex was consensual, asserting that the woman was attracted to him and that she had 'ripped' her own shirt during the encounter.
However, the jury rejected his account swiftly, taking less than an hour to find him guilty.
He was sentenced to eight years in prison.
The victim, a 30-year-old mother, expressed her anger that Dayman did not plead guilty, stating she was upset to be forced to relive the trauma in court.
She described the attack as a severe violation and expressed shock, noting that she had otherwise believed Dayman to be a caring family man.
The incident reportedly took place in December 2015, on his birthday.
The court proceedings detailed that Dayman had entered her home in Oakham, where he initially was invited for coffee.
The victim described how Dayman lunged for a kiss, followed by a series of violent actions including pinning her down, threatening her with a cushion, ripping her shirt, and pulling off her trousers.
The woman tried to fight him off and managed to call the police afterward.
Dayman denied the allegations, claiming the woman lifted her own shirt and removed her trousers, and that no assault occurred.
Despite his denial, the court found him guilty, and the judge highlighted that the victim had been threatened on Facebook, a warning about the dangers of such actions.
The case is categorized under 'Rapists'.
