DAVID CORNISH JAILED IN WOKING FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES AND GROOMING

In a significant case that has shocked the community of Woking, David Cornish, a man in his early 50s, has been sentenced to a total of 27 months in prison following his conviction on multiple serious charges related to child sexual offences. The offences stemmed from his grooming of a 12-year-old girl and the creation of indecent images involving children, which he committed while residing in Woking.

Cornish, who was employed at McLarens in Woking, appeared before Guildford Crown Court to face the charges. He pleaded guilty to two counts of causing or inciting a child under the age of 13 to engage in sexual activity, as well as seven counts of making indecent photographs of a child. The court proceedings revealed the disturbing nature of his actions, which included attempts to manipulate and exploit a young girl.

During the sentencing, it was disclosed that Cornish was also known by the nickname Shirley among his friends. The court sentenced him to 23 months imprisonment for the two counts related to inciting sexual activity with a minor. An additional four months were imposed concurrently for the possession of indecent images, bringing the total custodial period to 27 months.

It was noted that the indecent images found on Cornish’s computer did not include photographs of the key witness involved in the case, although the images were still deemed illegal and disturbing. The court took into account the severity of his actions and the potential risk posed to the community.

In addition to his prison sentence, the judge issued a series of strict orders and restrictions aimed at preventing any further offences. Cornish was placed under a 10-year sexual offences prevention order, which restricts his activities and contact with minors. He is also required to register on the sex offenders register for the same period.

Furthermore, Cornish was ordered to pay £513 in costs to the Crown Prosecution Service. He is prohibited from having any unsupervised contact or communication of any kind with females under the age of 16. Living in the same household as any female under 16 is also forbidden unless approved by his risk management officer. He is explicitly banned from any direct or indirect contact with the victim involved in this case.

Additional restrictions include a ban on owning or possessing a mobile phone, using the internet, or possessing any device capable of storing digital images. These measures are intended to prevent further offending and to monitor his activities closely. The case highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement and the justice system to protect vulnerable children and hold offenders accountable in Woking and beyond.
