DAVID BOND CAUGHT IN HEMEL HEMPSTEAD BY BRENTFORD SEX OFFENDER HUNTERS
In a significant operation carried out in Hemel Hempstead, authorities and online vigilantes successfully apprehended David Bond, a 71-year-old man from Brentford, who was attempting to meet a minor under false pretenses. Bond had been lured into a trap set by a paedophile hunting group that posed online as a 14-year-old girl, aiming to catch potential predators engaging in grooming behavior.Bond, a retired solicitor, had arranged to meet what he believed was a young girl at Hemel Hempstead railway station. He had traveled with him various items, including swimsuits he had purchased for the girl, sex toys, condoms, and a pregnancy testing kit, indicating his intentions. The meeting was scheduled for January 27 of the previous year, and Bond had even booked a hotel room costing approximately £300 per night, presumably to carry out his plans.
However, instead of meeting a minor, Bond was confronted by the paedophile hunters who had been monitoring his online activity. The group had created a fake profile, under the name Jess, which was designed to appear vulnerable and troubled, a tactic used to lure predators. This profile was part of an operation known as Team Impact, aimed at catching individuals attempting to groom minors for sexual activities.
When Bond arrived at the designated meeting point, he was immediately detained by the group, who recorded the encounter on video. The footage captured the moment of his arrest and was subsequently shared online, raising awareness about online grooming and the dangers posed by such predators.
During the subsequent court proceedings at Luton Crown Court, Bond was found guilty of attempting to meet a child following sexual grooming. Judge Barbara Mensah sentenced him to 18 months in prison, emphasizing the shame his actions brought not only upon himself but also upon his family. The court also heard that Bond had been in contact with the fake profile from December 2017 through January 2018, during which he believed he was communicating with a 14-year-old girl named Jess.
His legal representative, Julia Flanagan, revealed that the incident had led to the end of Bond’s 36-year marriage. Additionally, Bond was subjected to a sexual harm prevention order, restricting his activities and contact with minors. His name will also be entered into the sex offenders register for the next ten years, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his conduct and preventing further offenses.
