A convicted sex offender has been jailed after posing an inappropriate question to two girls under the age of 16 near Bath.

David Blackwood, 58, of Trinity Road, Combe Down, admitted to charges including inappropriate sexual communication with a minor, failing to update his details on the Sex Offenders’ Register, and breaching a sexual harm prevention order.

On Tuesday, March 3, he was sentenced at Bristol Magistrates’ Court.

He was sentenced to a year in prison, will stay on the Sex Offenders’ Register for ten years, and was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £187 along with £84 in court costs.

The incident occurred on the afternoon of February 4 when Blackwood approached two girls returning from school and asked them a sexually explicit question before fleeing.

One of the girls’ mother reported the matter to police.

Following a quick investigation led by acting Sergeant Cox and officers McFarlane, Osborne, and Bush from the Bath Outers Neighbourhood Team, Blackwood was detained and charged on February 11.

During his arrest, authorities found that he had not registered a new bank card in his possession, an act that violated his supervision conditions.
