PERTHSHIRE FARMER DAVID BAYNES ADDED TO SEX OFFENDERS REGISTER AFTER ABUSING TEENAGE GIRL
In October 2002, a disturbing case involving a farmer from Perthshire culminated in the individual being officially listed on the Sex Offenders Register. David Baynes, aged 37 at the time, faced serious allegations of sexual misconduct that led to his conviction and subsequent punishment.Baynes was found guilty of engaging in lewd and libidinous acts against a 14-year-old girl at his residence, Home Farm Cottage, located within Perthshire. The incident reportedly took place in 1995, and the court proceedings revealed that the abuse was not an isolated event but part of a prolonged period of misconduct.
The victim, who has since become a police officer and is now 27 years old, testified that she had endured abuse at the hands of Baynes over a span of approximately ten years. Her detailed account highlighted the persistent nature of the abuse and the profound impact it had on her life.
During the trial at Perth Sheriff Court, a jury acquitted Baynes of two separate charges involving the victim’s older sister, which indicates that the allegations were specifically focused on the abuse of the 14-year-old girl. Despite the acquittal on those charges, Baynes was convicted of the offenses related to the younger girl.
Following his conviction, Baynes was not only sentenced but also had his name officially added to the Sex Offenders Register, a measure aimed at monitoring individuals convicted of sexual offenses and protecting the community. Additionally, he was fined £200 as part of his punishment.
This case underscores the ongoing efforts of law enforcement and judicial authorities in Perthshire to address and penalize sexual offenses, especially those involving minors. It also serves as a reminder of the importance of safeguarding vulnerable individuals and ensuring that offenders are held accountable for their actions.
