DARYL TORRANCE CRUELTY IN MAUCHLINE: DOG LEFT TO SUFFER IN SORN STREET CRATE
In a disturbing case of animal cruelty, Daryl Torrance, a resident of Sorn Street in Catrine, Mauchline, has been convicted for his heinous treatment of a dog under his care.Born on October 12, 1989, Torrance was found guilty in 2024 after authorities uncovered the severe neglect inflicted upon his pet.
According to reports, the incident came to light when an anonymous tip prompted the Scottish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Scottish SPCA) to investigate Torrance’s residence.
When officers arrived at his home, they were immediately struck by an overwhelming smell of ammonia emanating from the stairwell, indicating possible neglect and poor sanitation conditions.
Upon entering the property, the officers discovered a male brindle and white crossbreed dog in a deplorable state.
The animal was confined within a small crate, which was placed on a soiled blanket soaked in urine and covered with feces.
The dog was found in an emaciated and collapsed condition, unable to lift its head due to extreme weakness and suffering.
The crate contained a bowl of dog food that remained untouched, placed just out of reach of the dog, and there was no water available for the animal.
The investigation revealed that the dog had been left in this distressing situation for several days, with no access to basic necessities such as food and water.
The condition of the dog was so severe that veterinary assessments concluded it was suffering immensely, leading to the heartbreaking decision to euthanize the animal to end its pain.
Further inquiries identified Torrance as the registered owner of the dog through a microchip.
Torrance, who works as a self-employed painter and decorator, faced serious legal consequences for his actions.
Assistant Procurator Fiscal Alistair Duncan described the case as “an appalling example of animal cruelty,” emphasizing that the dog had been abandoned and subjected to prolonged suffering due to Torrance’s neglect.
In court, Torrance was sentenced to six months in prison.
Additionally, he was banned from owning or caring for any animals for a period of ten years, reflecting the severity of his misconduct and the law’s stance on animal protection.
The Scottish SPCA and legal authorities reaffirmed their commitment to prosecuting individuals who commit such acts of cruelty, ensuring that justice is served for vulnerable animals in Mauchline and beyond.
