DURHAM MAN CONVICTED OF RAPE AND SEXUAL ASSAULT AFTER GARDEN ATTACK
A man who climbed into the garden of a woman while she was sunbathing, then sexually touched her and committed a rape attack, was found guilty at Durham Crown Court.
The victim had been deeply asleep in her garden and did not wake during the incident, having consumed wine and medication.
After she awoke and confronted Wilkinson, he returned to the house and tampered with CCTV footage, which later captured the incident in July 2024.
Wilkinson, 48, of Stafford Place, Peterlee, was convicted of both charges and sentenced to nine years in prison, with the requirement to serve two-thirds before eligibility for release.
Additionally, he was made subject to indefinite sex offender registration and a ten-year restraining order.
