DARREN STEPHEN: DRUNKEN ATTACKER OF WIFE AVOIDS JAIL WITH DEFERRED SENTENCE
A woman was punched and kicked by her husband during a drunken domestic assault in Lochore.The culprit was 49-year-old Darren Stephen, who is now living in Dunfermline.He appeared at Dunfermline Sheriff Court for sentencing after admitting offences committed on May 8 in Lochore.During the incident, he assaulted his wife by pushing her, resulting in her head striking a wall and falling to the floor, where he kicked her and punched her on the body.Stephen repeatedly forced open a door, causing her to fall, and then he kicked her again and poured a liquid over her, causing injury.He also shouted and swore at her throughout, made offensive comments, and threw objects around the room.Depute fiscal Catherine Stevenson said the couple had been drinking together from 4pm, with Stephen later seen shouting and swearing in his garden for several hours.At around 10pm, he entered the living room, escalated arguments with his wife, called her offensive names, and assaulted her.Defence solicitor Ian Beatson stated that Stephen works as a delivery driver and that both had relapsed into drinking after meeting at an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting.Sheriff Garry Sutherland described Stephen’s conduct as “very unsavoury behaviour fuelled by alcohol”, and he imposed a structured deferred sentence until May 8 along with a one-year non-harassment order.
