CUMBRIAN MAN JAILED FOR 16 YEARS FOR RAPE AND CHILD COMMUNICATION OFFENSES

A man from Cumbria, Darren Richmond, has been sentenced to 16 years in prison for committing nine child sexual offences.

According to the article, Richmond pleaded guilty to charges including rape and attempting to sexually communicate with a child.

The offences took place between 2010 and 2013, involving one victim.

Additionally, there was an offence in 2024 related to attempting to sexually communicate with a child through a decoy account.

On November 25, at Preston Crown Court, Richmond, aged 41 from Barrow, was sentenced to 16 years of imprisonment.

The court also imposed an extra five years of extended license, underscoring the gravity of his crimes, and he was placed on the Sex Offenders Register for life with a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO).

Detective Constable Faye Huddleston praised the victim's bravery and stated, "I am pleased with the sentence given out by the courts today.

Richmond is a predator, and I hope that his imprisonment provides some sense of justice and reassurance to the community." Huddleston further emphasized Cumbria Constabulary's commitment to investigating serious sexual offences regardless of the passage of time and encouraged victims to come forward.
