MOLD MAN JAILED FOR LIFE FOR THE MURDER OF KAREN CATHERALL
Darren Jeffreys, a resident of Mold, has been given a life sentence for murdering Karen Catherall. The assault took place at her residence in Gwernaffield on September 14, 2014.
Ms Catherall, who was a mother of two, was discovered with head injuries and strangulation marks, following Jeffreys’s confession to the killing in December.
The judge characterized the violence as 'senseless and driven by alcohol and jealousy,' and mandated a minimum term of 17 and a half years.
Court records noted that Ms Catherall was cherished by many and described as a 'loving mother, daughter, sister, aunty, and friend.' Jeffreys had a history of unpredictable conduct, including charges for assault against four former partners, all of whom described him as possessive and jealous.
The prosecution stated that Jeffreys contacted emergency services claiming he was unable to wake her after the assault, which was described as a 'brutal, sustained, and ultimately fatal attack,' likely involving very forceful punches.
The judge emphasized that Jeffreys had 'literally battered her to death.' His family expressed profound sorrow, while a police officer remarked that they hope Jeffreys will be haunted by his crime for life, as he has taken a mother away from her children and harmed many others.
