DAREN TIMSON FROM STANFORD-LE-HOPE CONVICTED IN UPSKIRTING CASE AT EMBANKMENT STATION, LONDON
In September 2019, a significant legal case unfolded involving Daren Timson, a man from Stanford-le-Hope in Essex, who became one of the first individuals to be convicted under the newly enacted law against upskirting. This law was introduced earlier in the year to criminalize the act of secretly capturing images or videos underneath someone’s clothing with the intent to view their genitals, a practice that has caused widespread concern and outrage.Timson, aged 54, pleaded guilty to a charge of operating a device beneath the clothing of another person without their consent. The incident took place at Embankment underground station in central London around 9:25 am on July 1. The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) confirmed that Timson-Hunt was the fourth person to be convicted under the new legislation since its implementation.
According to court proceedings, Timson-Hunt was observed using his mobile phone with the apparent purpose of obtaining sexual gratification. Prosecutor Katie Bryan detailed that the victim was on her way to a job interview when she was targeted. Witnesses, including Police Inspector Pete Scottow, who was present on a nearby train, provided crucial testimony. Inspector Scottow saw Timson-Hunt close to the victim, with his phone positioned between his legs and his thumb resting on the device’s edge, suggesting he was actively taking photographs up her skirt.
