A woman from Truro has come forward to share the profound psychological trauma she has endured following a harrowing incident involving Daniel Thomas Roche, a man from Cornwall who attempted to sexually assault her and commit rape. The victim’s account highlights the lasting impact of Roche’s actions, which have left her physically and emotionally scarred.

Daniel Thomas Roche, aged 31 and residing on Thornton Close in Roche, appeared before Truro Crown Court to face sentencing after being convicted by a jury on charges of attempted rape and sexual assault. The trial revealed the disturbing details of the assault, which has had a devastating effect on the victim’s life.

During the sentencing hearing, Judge Simon Carr emphasized the severity of the case, recounting how the victim had clearly expressed her lack of consent, stating she did not want to engage in sexual activity. Despite her objections, Roche allegedly ignored her protests, driven solely by his own desire for gratification. The judge remarked that Roche’s actions demonstrated a blatant disregard for her feelings and well-being, prioritizing his own needs over her consent and safety.

She revealed that her self-harming behaviors have increased since the incident, describing this as a form of self-protection. I know there is nothing to be ashamed of and discussing mental health is important but one day I will have to explain to my children why I look like this.”
