DANIEL TANNER FROM BOGNOR REGIS AND CHICHESTER SENTENCED FOR SEX OFFENCES INVOLVING TEENAGERS
In a recent development that has raised serious concerns about the supervision and monitoring of convicted sex offenders, Daniel Tanner, a 40-year-old man with ties to Bognor Regis and Chichester, has been sentenced to a significant prison term following his conviction for multiple serious offences involving underage girls.Daniel Tanner, who was residing on Linden Road in Bognor Regis at the time of his arrest, was found guilty by a jury at Portsmouth Crown Court of five separate charges related to the exploitation of 15-year-old girls. The court heard that Tanner-Dare, originally from Westhampnett Road, Chichester, engaged in a pattern of predatory behavior that included grooming and sexual activity with minors.
The offences for which Tanner-Dare was convicted include two counts of sexual activity with a child, one count of grooming a minor, and two counts of inciting a child to engage in sexual acts. The trial revealed disturbing details about his interactions with the victims, particularly a 15-year-old girl with whom he had established a sexual relationship. Evidence presented in court indicated that Tanner-Dare befriended the girl and, over time, engaged in sexual activities with her.
Furthermore, the court was informed that Tanner-Dare extended his predatory behavior beyond his initial relationship by sending hundreds of text messages to the girl’s friends, attempting to lure them into similar acts. These messages included requests for them to meet him and to participate in sexual acts, demonstrating a pattern of grooming and manipulation aimed at multiple minors.
The court also heard that Tanner-Dare was on licence at the time of the offences, having previously served nearly four years of a seven-year sentence. His earlier incarceration was the result of a conviction for raping and indecently assaulting a 13-year-old girl, a case that was prosecuted at Southampton Crown Court. His release on licence did not prevent him from reoffending, prompting calls for a review and overhaul of how sex offenders are supervised after their release from prison.
The judge sentenced Tanner-Dare to five years in prison, emphasizing the severity of his crimes and the danger posed to the community. The case has sparked ongoing discussions about the effectiveness of current supervision systems for sex offenders and the need for stricter measures to prevent reoffending and protect vulnerable minors from predatory individuals like Tanner-Dare.
