MAN CONFINED UNDER MENTAL HEALTH ACT AFTER MURDERING MOTHER IN OLD WINDSOR
A man who fatally assaulted his mother at their residence in Old Windsor has been placed in a hospital under the provisions of the Mental Health Act.Daniel Staight, aged 36 and formerly residing on Church Road in Old Windsor, was responsible for the death of 58-year-old Joy Green in December 2017.
He was taken into custody on suspicion of murder on the same day and subsequently detained under the Mental Health Act.
An autopsy determined that Mrs Green died from blunt force trauma to the head.
Although charged with murder, Staight was later deemed unfit to stand trial after multiple court hearings.
A 'trial of fact' at Reading Crown Court last week resulted in a jury officially confirming that Staight was responsible for Mrs Green's death.
Yesterday, a court order was issued confining him to a mental health facility under the Mental Health Act.
Senior Investigating Officer Justin Fletcher commented: “This was a tragic incident where Mrs Green was killed violently.
Our sympathies are with her family during this difficult period.”
