DANIEL OWEN FROM PENYSARN SENTENCED FOR HORRIFIC CHILD ABUSE AND CHILD PORNOGRAPHY IN ANGLESEY
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Penysarn on the island of Anglesey, Daniel Owen, aged 23, has been sentenced to prison for a series of heinous crimes involving child abuse and possession of illegal images. The case came to light after police executed a search warrant at his residence in Penysarn Fawr, Penysarn, last October, uncovering a staggering collection of over 36,000 illegal images and videos. Among these was footage described by authorities as among the most 'disturbing' they have encountered, depicting the 'sadistic, violent, and sexual torture' of a toddler. The judge presiding over the case, Huw Rees, emphasized the severity of the material, stating that the very existence of such footage was 'beyond words.'Daniel Owen, who was known to have worked on a caravan site in the area, was characterized by the court as a loner with a troubling history of internet-based sexual misconduct. Evidence presented during the trial revealed that Owen had early experiences of exposing himself to adults via online platforms, indicating a pattern of deviant behavior that escalated over time. Despite these disturbing behaviors, Judge Rees clarified that Owen did not suffer from any significant mental illness, although he acknowledged that the defendant was socially isolated, a factor that may have contributed to his actions.
Throughout the proceedings, Owen pleaded guilty to 13 serious sexual offences involving minors. These included causing a child to watch a sexual act, encouraging a child to engage in sexual activity, and creating indecent images of children. Prosecutors detailed that Owen had obtained these illicit images from the dark web and had taken steps to destroy evidence, including a hard drive containing the illegal material, once he realized the gravity of his actions. The court also heard that Owen had used a video chat application to communicate with minors, including a girl aged about six and two boys, one of whom was a 13-year-old girl. In one recorded online conversation, Owen was seen bare-chested, and the girl expressed her distress, saying, 'Oh my God, that’s going to scar me for life.'
During sentencing, Judge Rees described Owen’s actions as indicative of a deeply ingrained and deviant sexual interest in children. The court sentenced him to six years and two months in prison. Upon release, Owen will be eligible for parole consideration after serving two-thirds of his sentence, but his license will be extended by an additional three years. Furthermore, he is required to register as a sex offender for life, and a sexual harm prevention order has been imposed to restrict his future activities. The case serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat child exploitation and protect vulnerable victims from such heinous crimes.
