DANIEL MULVEY FROM NORTH AYRSHIRE ESCAPES JAIL AFTER SENDING SEXUAL MESSAGES TO 14-YEAR-OLD NEAR GLASGOW

In a case that has sent shockwaves through the Scottish golfing community and the wider public, Daniel Mulvey, a renowned golf caddie from North Ayrshire, narrowly avoided imprisonment after admitting to sending explicit and inappropriate messages to a 14-year-old girl. The incident unfolded in July 2023, following an encounter near Glasgow's famous TRNSMT music festival, where Mulvey met the young girl and her friend.

According to court records, Mulvey approached the girls while they were seeking shelter from heavy rain in Glasgow Green. During this initial meeting, he obtained the girl’s contact details by asking for her Snapchat username, which she provided before leaving the scene. The girl did not disclose her age or her name at the time, but Mulvey believed her to be slightly older. Later that night, Mulvey contacted her via social media, sending a series of messages that would lead to serious legal consequences.

In the messages, Mulvey expressed a disturbing desire to have sex with the girl, stating that he “actually didn’t care” about her age and explicitly saying he wanted to “be your first.” He also admitted to “not stopping” his thoughts about her, saying, “I can’t stop looking at your pictures, I’m in bed thinking about you.” When the girl revealed her age as 14, Mulvey responded with a chilling remark: “Actually don’t care that you are 14 by the way, you are so good.” The conversation continued into the early hours, with Mulvey asking if she was a virgin and reiterating his desire to be her first.

Concerned about the nature of the communication, the girl’s aunt, who had become aware of the messages, discreetly recorded the conversation on her mobile phone. She later discovered that her niece had been communicating with someone named “Dan” on Snapchat. The aunt’s intervention was crucial in bringing the case to light. The girl later confided in her aunt that she had met Mulvey at TRNSMT, and the messages revealed his explicit intentions.

Following the discovery, the matter was reported to the police. Investigations linked the Snapchat account and associated email address to Mulvey, leading to his arrest. On December 14, police apprehended him at Manchester Airport and transported him to a police station in Glasgow for questioning.

Mulvey, who has previously enjoyed a distinguished career in the world of golf, was known for working alongside prominent figures such as Gary Player. His professional achievements include caddying at major tournaments like The Open and the DP World Tour. He has also been photographed with notable personalities, including U.S. President Donald Trump and golf legend Padraig Harrington.

However, his reputation and career now face significant damage following his guilty plea at Glasgow Sheriff Court to a single charge of sending written sexual communications to a minor. During the sentencing hearing on May 23, Sheriff Iain Fleming ordered Mulvey to complete 150 hours of unpaid community service. Additionally, Mulvey was placed on the sex offenders register and will be under supervision for a period of 18 months. As he left the court, Mulvey was escorted by police amid jeers from members of the public who had gathered outside, expressing their outrage at his actions.
