LIFE IN JAIL FOR A JEALOUS KNIFE KILLER

A 22-year-old man who killed his ex-girlfriend's new partner in a fit of jealousy has received a life sentence.

Daniel McGuiness stabbed Jeffrey Farrow at least 18 times with an eight-inch kitchen knife in front of a witness, Derica Weatherby.

After the attack, he told his mother, "I've done the bastard and he's dead." Mr.

Farrow, aged 53, and Weatherby, 19, who was previously dating McGuiness and shared two children with him, became a couple while McGuiness was serving time for assaulting a police officer.

Although they briefly reconciled after McGuiness’s release in August 2006, his anger grew when he learned Weatherby and Mr.

Farrow continued to speak.

His jealousy led to the killing at Mr.

Farrow's home on Pendlebury Road, Swinton, on November 9 last year.

The defendant, from Aspinall Close, Little Hulton, pleaded guilty to murder and was sentenced by Judge Clement Goldstone, who ordered him to serve a minimum of 15 years and four months.

The judge described the act as premeditated and deliberate, stating, "You arrived armed and afterward made callous comments.

Jeffrey Farrow was loved deeply by many—his loss leaves a void that no sentence can fill." At the time of his sentencing, McGuiness was also serving time for assaulting a police officer.

His partner, Weatherby, with whom he shared a young son and who was pregnant with a second child, had started seeing Mr.

Farrow while McGuiness was incarcerated.

She ended that relationship when he was released but rejoined Mr.

Farrow shortly after.

McGuiness had access to their children but grew controlling, eventually removing their television, which sparked a confrontation with Mr.

Farrow.

On the night of the murder, McGuiness took a taxi from Little Hulton with an eight-inch knife concealed up his sleeve.

He entered Mr.

Farrow’s home, found him on the sofa, and launched a frenzied attack, stabbing him 18 times and causing fatal injuries.

Mr.

Farrow also sustained three cuts to his hands while defending himself before dying in hospital.

McGuiness then returned to the taxi and called his mother, admitting to her that he had killed Mr.

Farrow.

During medical examination after arrest, he told police, "I just want to tell the truth and do my time for my two minutes of madness." His defense argued that alcohol and drugs had been involved, and he was in a highly emotional state.

Relatives of Mr.

Farrow, including his 34-year-old daughter Leigh, expressed grief, noting that her father was generous and caring, and that although justice was served, it could not bring him back.
