OFFENDER JAILED FOR BRUTAL RAPE AND ASSAULT IN NEWTON ABBOTT
A man named Daniel Kilgallon, aged 31, who was formerly of Old Lane, Drighlington, and later residing at St Leonard’s Close in Newton Abbott, Devon, has been convicted of serious sexual offenses. He was found guilty at Bradford Crown Court last month for kidnapping and sexually assaulting a woman.
Kilgallon forcibly entered the victim's home in June of the previous year, where he detained her by grabbing her, forcing her onto the floor, covering her mouth, and striking her in the face.
He then proceeded to sexually assault and rape her.
During the trial, Kilgallon pleaded guilty to causing actual bodily harm to the victim.
The court was told that his attack was carried out for sexual gratification.
The victim, who remains unnamed, reported feeling "isolated" and suffering from significant medical and psychological difficulties, including nightmares, and it was revealed she had to take anti-depressants and anti-anxiety medications.
She also moved house afterward but continued to carry a panic key for safety.
The prosecution highlighted the severity of the attack, with prosecutor David McGonigal emphasizing the violence used.
The defense argued that only a moderate level of violence was involved, but the judge rejected this, confirming the attack involved throttling and violence designed to terrify.
Judge Jonathan Rose sentenced Kilgallon to nine years in prison, imposed an indefinite restraining order preventing contact with the victim, and ordered him to register as a sex offender for life.
The judge condemned Kilgallon’s actions as a betrayal of his otherwise capable and caring nature, emphasizing that he abandoned all good in him to commit this dreadful crime.
