DANIEL HUNTER FROM MONKSTOWN SENTENCED FOR CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE IN DUBLIN

In a case that has shocked the local community of Monkstown, Dublin, Daniel Alexander Hunter, aged 71, has been sentenced to three and a half years in prison for a series of heinous sexual offenses committed against young girls.

The crimes, which spanned over three years, involved Hunter abusing four girls whose ages ranged from nine to twelve years old.

Hunter, a resident of Jennings Drive in Monkstown, pleaded guilty to a total of eleven charges, including ten counts of indecent assault and one count of gross indecency.

The incidents took place between April 2004 and May 2007, during which Hunter exploited the innocence of his young victims.

The court heard that the offences were particularly aggravated due to the presence of multiple victims, the prolonged period over which the abuse occurred, and the significant age gap between Hunter and the children.

During the sentencing, Judge Tom Burgess expressed his strong disapproval of Hunter’s actions, describing his conduct as “disgraceful.” The judge noted that Hunter had shown no remorse for the suffering inflicted upon the victims.

The court was informed that the victims had been left suffering from nightmares and sleep disturbances as a direct result of Hunter’s abuse.

Hunter appeared in the dock, leaning on a walking stick, as the judge delivered his verdict.

Judge Burgess emphasized that Hunter’s focus was on his own fate rather than the well-being of the children and their families, highlighting the selfishness and cruelty of his actions.

In addition to the prison sentence, Hunter was ordered to sign the sex offenders register for life, a measure intended to monitor and restrict his contact with children in the future.

Furthermore, the court imposed a 10-year Sexual Offences Prevention Order.

This order prohibits Hunter from working with children, having any unapproved contact with minors, being within 50 metres of any child-centred facility, or contacting any of the victims or their families directly or indirectly.

The case has left a lasting impact on the community of Monkstown, raising concerns about child safety and the importance of vigilance in protecting vulnerable members of society from predators like Daniel Hunter.
