DANIEL DELOOZE FROM HINDLEY GREEN SENTENCED FOR HORRIFIC ATTACK IN WARRINGTON
In a disturbing case that has shocked the local community, Daniel Delooze, aged 30 and residing in Hindley Green, was sentenced to eight years in prison for a brutal assault that took place in Warrington, Cheshire. The incident involved a terrifying break-in at a young mother’s home, where Delooze gained entry through an unlocked door in the early hours of the morning and carried out a violent and disturbing attack.According to court reports, Delooze entered the woman’s house while she was sleeping, around 2am, after traveling from his residence in Hindley Green. CCTV footage played a crucial role in the investigation, showing a hooded man walking past the victim’s house, smoking, drinking, and carrying a rucksack. The footage captured him standing outside the property, then walking towards the house before disappearing from view. Approximately half an hour later, he reappeared on camera, and police were able to track his movements, estimate his height at 5 feet 9 inches, and connect him to the scene through DNA evidence.
During the attack, the woman awoke to find Delooze standing beside her bed. He then inflicted a 'disturbing' assault, during which he strangled her until she lost consciousness. Witnesses reported that he was 'rambling' while throttling her, with some words like 'kill' being audible. Fortunately, her children were asleep at the time, although one child was in the same room as her during this terrifying ordeal. After she passed out, Delooze is believed to have sexually assaulted her, although the precise details of this part of the attack remain unclear due to legal restrictions.
When she regained consciousness around 6am, the woman discovered she had sustained more than 20 injuries across her body, including wounds to her neck, jaw, chest, arms, and legs. She was left bewildered, unable to identify her attacker at first, but forensic analysis revealed DNA evidence on her pyjama bottoms, duvet, and a child's top stored in an open divan drawer. This evidence was pivotal in linking Delooze to the assault.
Following the attack, the woman sought medical attention at a sexual assault referral center. A doctor confirmed that her injuries were consistent with non-fatal strangulation and indicated a high level of violence. She subsequently reported the incident to police, which led to Delooze’s arrest and detention. During police interviews, Delooze claimed he had been at home with his partner and their child on the night of the attack. He also attempted to explain the presence of his DNA at the scene, though the details of his explanation could not be disclosed publicly for legal reasons.
Delooze faced trial at Liverpool Crown Court earlier this month, where he pleaded not guilty to charges of inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent and sexual assault. The prosecution, led by Simon Parry, argued that the evidence pointed to a violent and unprovoked attack. The jury found him guilty of the lesser charge of inflicting grievous bodily harm, as well as sexual assault, but acquitted him of the more serious charge of causing GBH with intent.
The victim delivered a heartfelt victim impact statement, describing her ordeal as 'horrendous' and expressing her ongoing fears about her safety and her ability to live peacefully in her own home. She said, 'What really took place that night might remain unclear for the rest of my life. I can’t help but think that I could easily have died as a result of this incident. It’s difficult to comprehend. I’m not sure how I will manage on my own in the house with the children. I will be terrified — especially during the evenings. I want to wake up from it all, I want it all to be a nightmare. This was an unprovoked, violent attack — it was truly horrendous.'
Delooze, who has a criminal history including an assault causing actual bodily harm in 2010, continues to maintain his innocence despite the verdict. His defense argued that there was another side to his character, with acquaintances describing him as 'trustworthy and honest.'
Judge Brian Cummings addressed the court, emphasizing the severity of the crime. He stated, 'It barely needs stating that strangling another person is a highly dangerous attack. It was entirely foreseeable that this could have resulted in death or catastrophic injuries. You strangled her unconscious and abandoned her alone in that state in the middle of the night, and it is a matter of pure fortune that her injuries are not more serious than they already are. The presence of children in the house is a serious aggravating factor.'
He further declared Delooze a dangerous offender under the law, warranting an extended sentence. The judge explained that Delooze posed a significant risk of reoffending and that such crimes could cause serious harm to the public. As a result, he was sentenced to eight years in prison, with an additional two years on license, and was ordered to register as a sex offender for life. This means Delooze will serve at least two-thirds of his sentence, approximately five years and four months, before being eligible for parole, provided he is no longer deemed a threat to society.
Additionally, the court imposed an indefinite restraining order to protect the victim from any further contact or harassment. The case has left a lasting impact on the community, highlighting the dangers of home invasions and violent assaults, and underscoring the importance of vigilance and safety in residential areas like Hindley Green and Warrington.
