DANIEL CROTTY FROM BUTTERSHAW SENTENCED TO 14 YEARS FOR SEXUAL ABUSE OF TEENAGE GIRL IN BRADFORD

In a case that has shocked the local community, Daniel Crotty, aged 32, of Reevy Crescent in Buttershaw, was sentenced to a lengthy prison term after being convicted of multiple serious sexual offences against a young teenage girl. The conviction followed a trial at Bradford Crown Court, where the court heard harrowing details of the abuse that took place over a single night several years prior.

According to court records, Crotty was found guilty of five counts of engaging in sexual activity with a child, along with an additional charge of attempting to incite or cause a child to participate in sexual acts. The court was told that Crotty’s actions were not isolated incidents but part of a disturbing pattern of predatory behavior. The offences reportedly occurred during a single night, during which Crotty, who was also under the influence of alcohol and cocaine, manipulated and exploited the vulnerable young girl.

It was revealed that Crotty, who was drinking and using drugs at the time, took advantage of the girl’s emotional distress. He reportedly offered her alcohol, claiming it would help her feel better, despite her being upset. The court heard that Crotty’s substance abuse was a significant factor in the offences, with the defendant himself being intoxicated during the incident. Following the abuse, Crotty sent a text message to the girl the next day, warning her that no one must find out about what had happened, further demonstrating his attempt to conceal his actions.

In addition to the sexual offences, Crotty’s criminal record includes a conviction for a robbery, which resulted in a four-year prison sentence. The court was informed that the victim had struggled to forget the traumatic experience but was confronted with Crotty again after his release from prison. This encounter underscored the ongoing threat he posed to the community.

During sentencing, Recorder Tom Little QC emphasized the dangerous nature of Crotty’s conduct. He pointed out Crotty’s history of violent offending while intoxicated and expressed concern about his capacity to commit serious crimes under the influence. The judge highlighted the significant disparity in age between Crotty and his young victim, as well as the fact that alcohol and cocaine played a role in the offences. The judge also noted Crotty’s attempt to silence the victim by instructing her not to tell anyone about the abuse.

To protect the public, Recorder Little initially sentenced Crotty to 10 years in prison, followed by an extended license period of four years. This means Crotty will serve two-thirds of his sentence before being eligible for parole consideration. Additionally, a sexual harm prevention order was imposed to restrict Crotty’s contact with minors and prevent further offences. The court’s decision reflects the seriousness of the crimes committed and the need to safeguard vulnerable individuals from potential harm in the future.
