Upon forced entry into her home, which had been left unoccupied for some time, they uncovered the heartbreaking remains of two cats and a dog in a state of extreme neglect.
The bodies of the cats, Bentley and Mischief, were found amidst a mess of rubbish, faeces, empty cans, bottles, and heavily soiled litter trays.
One cat was located in the bathroom, while the other was wedged behind a set of drawers, indicating a lack of proper care and hygiene.
The dog, a Jack Russell named Edie, was discovered in the kitchen, on the brink of death.
She was found in a small, confined space surrounded by chewed plastic takeaway cartons and empty bowls.
The dog had survived by gnawing through food packets, a desperate attempt to find sustenance.
Edie was severely emaciated, with her ribs, spine, and pelvic bones clearly visible, and she weighed only 3.9 kilograms at the time of rescue.
