FATHER WHO ATTACKED EX-PARTNER AND DROVE AT 115MPH WITH SON IN THE CAR JAILED
On August 19, a father removed his young son from his ex-partner's residence in Cardiff and subsequently led police on a high-speed chase, during which he reached speeds up to 115mph with the child in the vehicle. The mother, who had jumped into the passenger seat, was assaulted by Daniel Clayton while he was driving; he attempted to force her out of the car.
During the confrontation, Clayton struck the mother four times—hitting her head with the back of his hand that caused her lip to bleed, elbowing her in the face which resulted in her left eyebrow bleeding, pulling her hair backward, slapping her, and trying to pull her out of the vehicle.
She refused to leave her child.
Clayton then drove onto the M4 and continued onto the A432 and A48 roads heading towards Bridgend, reaching speeds of 115mph.
Police intercepted and arrested him.
Clayton, who has no fixed address, admitted to charges including assault by beating, dangerous driving, and criminal damage.
The woman reported increased anxiety and stress since the incident, along with fear of passing by the offender's residence.
She recounted Clayton crashing her head against the windscreen, leading to migraines and rib pain, and she believed he intended to kill them.
The court sentenced Clayton to 12 months in prison, imposed a £300 fine, ordered him to pay £70 in compensation, issued a five-year restraining order, and banned him from driving for two and a half years.
