DANIEL BISACRE FROM KNAPHILL SENTENCED FOR CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE IN GUILDFORD

In December 2012, Daniel Bisacre, a 32-year-old man residing in Knaphill, was sentenced to a total of 36 months in prison after being convicted of serious sexual offenses involving a young boy. Bisacre, who previously served as a cub scout leader, was found guilty of engaging in sexual acts with a minor and possessing indecent images of children, crimes that have profoundly shocked the local community and cast a dark shadow over his reputation.

Bisacre’s criminal activities came to light after a trial at Guildford Crown Court, where the court heard that he had met the young victim through the scout movement. The boy, who was part of a different cub scout group than the one Bisacre led, was subjected to two separate incidents in which Bisacre cornered him and performed indecent acts. These acts took place while Bisacre was serving as a leader of the 2nd New Haw Scout Group, a position that entrusted him with the safety and well-being of young children. The court was told that Bisacre’s breach of trust was particularly egregious given his role in guiding and supervising young scouts.

Judge Christopher Critchlow, presiding over the case, addressed the court during sentencing, emphasizing the gravity of Bisacre’s betrayal of trust. He stated, “As a scout leader you of course were trusted by parents of the boys in your charge, whether on a trip somewhere or on a scout camp. With your actions you breached that trust.” The judge also highlighted the impact of Bisacre’s actions on the community and the victims, noting that such conduct was a severe violation of the responsibilities placed upon him.

The court further revealed that Bisacre had a prior conviction related to child pornography. In September 2011, he was found guilty of possessing over 800 indecent images of young boys on his computer, a discovery that underscored the extent of his criminal behavior. The judge expressed hope that Bisacre would use his time in custody to reflect and address his conduct, adding, “I certainly hope that there won’t be any further offending of this nature.”

During the sentencing hearing, Amanda Hamilton, representing Bisacre, attempted to mitigate his actions by stating that he had lost everything following his convictions. She mentioned that Bisacre had been subjected to verbal abuse from fellow inmates who learned of his crimes, and that his family maintained positive contact with the scout groups, including the families of the boys he had looked after. Hamilton emphasized that no negative sentiments had been expressed towards Bisacre or his family by the community.

Judge Critchlow responded by acknowledging the damage caused by Bisacre’s offenses. He remarked, “Before you committed these offences you were a man of good character. You are now 32 and have lost that good character and through this offence you have lost a great deal. You have lost your job, your pension and your involvement with the scouts.”

Ultimately, Bisacre was sentenced to 27 months in prison for the two counts of sexual activity with a child, with an additional nine months for possessing indecent images. The sentences are to run consecutively, reflecting the seriousness of his crimes. He was also placed on the sex offenders’ register and banned from working with children in the future, ensuring that he would be closely monitored and prevented from reoffending.

These convictions have sent a stark warning to the community about the dangers of trusting individuals in positions of authority over children. The case underscores the importance of vigilance and safeguarding measures within organizations like the scout movement, which are meant to foster safe and nurturing environments for young people.
