DAMIEN MILTON FROM GOSPORT SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL OFFENSES INVOLVING 14-YEAR-OLD GIRL
In a case that has shocked the local community of Gosport, Damien Milton, a 21-year-old man, was sentenced to two years in prison after admitting to engaging in sexual activity with a girl who was only 14 years old at the time. The incident took place near Milton's residence in Gosport in April of this year, and the court proceedings have brought to light the disturbing nature of the offense.Milton was fully aware that the girl was below the age of legal consent when he committed the act. His actions have left a lasting impact on the young girl, whose mother, who has chosen to remain anonymous for legal reasons, expressed her deep concern and distress over her daughter's condition following the ordeal. The mother described her daughter's emotional and physical decline, noting that she had stopped eating and was falling behind academically. She also observed a significant change in her daughter's attitude towards her family and school, although her daughter struggled to articulate the reasons behind her altered behavior.
The mother further stated, "This has had quite an extreme effect on my daughter. She stopped eating and started falling behind at school. Her attitude to her family and school has completely changed – she has difficulty explaining why but I believe it’s because of what she has been through." She also expressed relief that Milton admitted to his actions, sparing her daughter the trauma of testifying in court. Despite her feelings that the sentence might not be sufficiently long, she acknowledged that justice was served with Milton's imprisonment.
Milton, who resides on Charden Road in Gosport, will be required to register as a sex offender for the next ten years. It is anticipated that he will serve approximately one year behind bars before being released on license, given that he has already spent over 150 days in custody awaiting sentencing. This means he could potentially be released in about 200 days, subject to the terms of his parole.
He pleaded guilty to one count of sexual activity with a child, and the court's decision reflects the seriousness of his offense and the impact it has had on the victim and her family. The case underscores the ongoing concerns about safeguarding minors and the importance of holding offenders accountable for their actions in the Gosport community.
