CARDIFF MAN JAILED FOR BRUTAL MURDER OF EX-GIRLFRIEND
A man responsible for the murder of his ex-girlfriend, Joanna Michael, aged 25, has received a life sentence at Cardiff Crown Court.Cyron Williams, aged 20, pleaded guilty to the murder, which officers described as resembling a tragic scene.
The court was informed that Williams broke into Joanna’s residence in August 2009 and discovered her in bed with another man.
After briefly assisting the man by offering him a lift home, Williams returned to confront Joanna, this time wielding a large kitchen knife.
He then carried out a violent stabbing, resulting in 22 wounds and a total of 74 injuries.
Prosecutor Patrick Harrington QC characterized the killing as brutal and detailed how Williams retrieved the knife from the kitchen before returning to her.
The judge emphasized the profound effect of the incident on Joanna’s children and family.
Williams’s defense argued that the emergency call made by Joanna was not responded to swiftly, possibly preventing her death.
The police response involved coordination between Gwent and South Wales Police, with the initial 999 call handled by Gwent.
An investigation by the Independent Police Complaints Commission is examining the adequacy of police handling.
Williams was convicted and sentenced with a message from the court highlighting the seriousness of his crime and its impact on her loved ones.
