CRAIG WILSON'S SHOCKING CRIME IN WASHINGTON: PREDATOR WORKING AT SCHOOL LEAVES TEEN PREGNANT

In September 2006, a disturbing case emerged involving Craig Wilson, a man with a troubling criminal history, who committed a serious sexual offense in Washington. Wilson, aged 26 at the time, had previously been convicted of multiple violent and sexual crimes, including assault causing grievous bodily harm, assault, and molestation of an 18-year-old woman in a pub back in 2001. Despite these convictions, he was serving a community sentence imposed the previous year for violence and harassment directed at a former partner.

What made this case particularly alarming was the fact that Wilson was working as a builder at a local school in Washington, Wearside, while still on probation. He failed to disclose this employment to his supervising officer, which was a breach of his probation conditions. Unbeknownst to the authorities, Wilson was employed by a building company contracted to carry out repairs at a comprehensive school in the area. During his time working there, he met a 14-year-old girl, who was a student at the school.

Wilson, who told the girl he was 20 years old, managed to obtain her telephone number. Over a period, the two exchanged hundreds of text messages and phone calls, establishing a pattern of communication that eventually led to a meeting. Wilson then collected the girl from her school and took her to his flat, where they engaged in sexual activity. This encounter resulted in the girl becoming pregnant. She later chose to have an abortion, as was revealed during the proceedings at Newcastle Crown Court.

Wilson was arrested and charged after the girl’s father grew suspicious and checked his daughter’s phone records. The father discovered the large volume of calls and messages exchanged between Wilson and his daughter, which prompted him to contact the police. Initially, Wilson faced charges of rape, which he denied. However, the prosecution accepted his guilty pleas to lesser charges, including sexual activity with a child and meeting a child after grooming.

In court, Wilson, of Murton Court, Newcastle, admitted to the offenses in March of that year. He was subsequently sentenced to two and a half years in prison. The judge, Mr. Justice David Wood, emphasized the seriousness of the crimes, noting that Wilson’s actions demonstrated a clear pattern of offending. The judge also highlighted that Wilson had not been registered as a sex offender after his earlier indecent assault conviction but was now required to sign the sex offenders’ register for life. Additionally, Wilson was banned from working with children for the rest of his life.

During sentencing, Judge Wood acknowledged Wilson’s early guilty plea and the positive references provided on his behalf, which showed a more favorable side of his character. Nonetheless, he stressed the gravity of the offenses, particularly noting the grooming behavior as an aggravating factor. The court was informed that assessments indicated a medium to high risk of Wilson reoffending or causing harm in the future. The judge concluded that only custody was appropriate given the severity of the crimes committed.
