CRAIG PERRIE FROM MONIKIE FACES UNCONVENTIONAL SENTENCE AFTER DOMESTIC INCIDENT IN ANGUS

In a notable case that has drawn attention in the local community of Monikie, Craig Perrie, an offshore worker, has been subjected to a unique form of sentencing by Sheriff Gregor Murray. Instead of the traditional approach, Perrie has been ordered to compose a detailed essay outlining his plans to cease his pattern of domestic abuse and address underlying issues contributing to his behavior.

Sheriff Murray’s decision came after being informed of Perrie’s most recent incident involving domestic violence. The court has given Perrie until the end of the week to submit a comprehensive written plan that clearly explains how he intends to change his conduct to prevent any future episodes of violence or intimidation. The sheriff emphasized the importance of this task, stating, “You have until Friday to produce a written plan which will detail how you will address your offending and how it is going to stop. Your drinking will be addressed in it, your offending will be addressed. You are nowhere near out of the woods yet. You can do it on your own or you can sit down with your wife and do it.”

Craig Perrie, aged 41 and residing in Monikie, Angus, admitted to a troubling incident on March 6, where he behaved in a threatening or abusive manner that caused fear and alarm to his partner. During the incident, Perrie also damaged his partner’s mobile phone by throwing it to the ground amid an argument fueled by alcohol consumption. The court heard that Perrie had returned from offshore work, where he had been drinking at home, and accused his partner of infidelity, which escalated into an all-night argument. Despite the severity of the incident, Perrie’s partner expressed a desire to avoid criminal proceedings and wished to maintain their relationship.

Defense lawyer David Sinclair described the episode as regrettable and highlighted Perrie’s upcoming work trip to Senegal, which is expected to last four weeks. Sinclair expressed hope that this trip might help defuse tensions and provide some space for reflection. Perrie’s criminal history includes a previous sentence for domestic assault in January 2018, along with multiple other convictions related to domestic violence, indicating a pattern of concerning behavior.

Sheriff Murray made it clear that before finalizing Perrie’s sentence, he must develop a formal, written plan addressing his behavior, including issues related to alcohol consumption. The court’s aim is to ensure Perrie takes responsibility and actively works towards preventing future incidents, emphasizing that the court’s approach is focused on rehabilitation and accountability rather than solely punishment.
