CRAIG MYERS FROM MUSKHAM JAILED FOR RAPE IN PETERBOROUGH

In January 2021, a woman from Peterborough bravely shared her harrowing experience of a brutal assault that has left her deeply traumatized and battling suicidal thoughts. The incident, which she describes as a 'heartless, soul-destroying attack,' occurred in May 2019 and has had a profound impact on her mental health and well-being.

According to court reports, Craig Myers, aged 20, was responsible for the assault. The victim recounted that Myers had invited her to his residence in Muskham, a district within Peterborough, on the evening of May 22, 2019. Once there, he forcibly removed her trousers and subjected her to rape in his bedroom. The woman described the aftermath of the attack as a period of intense emotional and physical distress. She explained, “Since that night I have changed. I have spent hours scrubbing my skin, trying to remove the marks that nobody sees. I couldn’t speak about it to most of my family. It made me feel dirty, used and as if he had killed a part of me.”

She further revealed that the trauma has left her unable to be alone, describing the attack as 'heartless' and 'soul-destroying.' Her mental health has deteriorated significantly since the incident, to the point where she once attempted to take her own life. Despite her suffering, she expressed a strong desire for justice, stating, “I hope he never has the chance again to hurt someone the way he did me. I will never ‘get over’ what happened, I live with it every single day.”

Following the assault, Myers had fallen asleep, leaving the victim too frightened to move or seek help immediately. The next day, she returned home and confided in her family before contacting the police. Myers was subsequently arrested. During the investigation, he denied any sexual contact with the victim, but DNA evidence proved otherwise. Confronted with this evidence, Myers admitted to charges of assault by penetration and rape.

He was brought before Peterborough Crown Court, where he was sentenced to 54 months in a Young Offenders Institution. The case highlights the devastating impact of sexual violence and the importance of justice for victims who bravely come forward to share their stories.
