CRAIG HARKINS SENTENCED IN GLASGOW FOR DOMESTIC ABUSE AGAINST MULTIPLE PARTNERS

A man has been sentenced today (Monday, 8 June, 2020) at the High Court in Glasgow for domestic abuse offenses committed against multiple partners.

Craig Harkins, aged 40 and from Castlemilk, received an extended sentence of 17 years, which includes 12 years of imprisonment. He was convicted on Monday, 3 February, following a two-week trial.

The offences took place over several years, from 2011 to 2019, involving seven women, including four of Harkins' former partners.

Harkins was found guilty of 16 charges related to these women. The charges included five counts of rape, four counts of serious assault, indecent assault, and numerous others involving assault and threatening behaviour, notably including the use of knives. He was also convicted of controlling and emotionally abusive behaviour toward his partners.

Detective Inspector Iain Renfrew of the Domestic Abuse Task Force stated: “Harkins subjected his victims to terrifying physical and emotional abuse, often within their own homes, and I would like to commend all the women who spoke up for their bravery.

This investigation spanned eight months and involved officers working tirelessly to trace all victims to ensure a successful conviction. This verdict clearly demonstrates that Police Scotland will thoroughly investigate domestic abuse crimes and that such behaviour has no place in our society.
