PERTHSHIRE MAN CONVICTED FOR THREATENING TEENAGER WITH AN AXE IN FAMILY DISPUTE
A 49-year-old Perthshire man named Craig Fair threatened a teenager less than half his age with an axe during a confrontation over a house key.The incident was part of a family dispute stemming from a recent separation, which led Fair to leave his marital home near Meigle.
He and his daughter Gail had gone to collect a cottage key when a dispute arose.
Craig Fair claimed in court that he was "set up to get one over on him" due to family feuds, but Sheriff Keith O’Mahony rejected his version of events.
The court found him guilty of acting aggressively towards his daughter Gail and her partner Daniel Craig, making violent threats at their home in Meigle on September 26 last year.
Furthermore, he was convicted of assaulting the teenager by placing an axe against his neck and threatening him with violence, with the axe later found by police in Fair's vehicle and forfeited.
The court heard that Fair’s aggressive behavior was related to ongoing family issues after his separation from his wife at Fullarton Farm Cottage.
Fair will learn his fate on February 21 after a background report and a restriction of liberty order assessment are prepared.
His bail was continued in the meantime.
The incident was reportedly triggered by a family feud involving Fair’s estranged wife and the dispute over the cottage key.
