BLAIRGOWRIE ABATTOIR WORKER SENTENCED FOR DOMESTIC ASSAULT

An abattoir worker named Costel Grosu was involved in a domestic assault incident at his new Blairgowrie home.

He had been drinking and, after the evening spiraled escalating, he punched his girlfriend in the face, leaving her with visible bruising and swelling.

The victim, distressed and frightened, called a friend and exclaimed, 'He hit me.

He hit me.' Grosu, aged 29, appeared at Perth Sheriff Court and admitted to the domestically aggravated assault that occurred on June 25 of the current year.

The court was told that the couple had only recently moved into a flat on Reform Street, having been together for about six months but only living together for three weeks prior to the incident.

The court heard that while the relationship was generally good, alcohol consumption often led to difficulties.

Witnesses present that night testified that Grosu became aggressive as the evening progressed and began ranting in Romanian, which caused the other guests to leave.

Around 12:30 am, he physically assaulted his partner by punching her in the face, after which she contacted a witness who then alerted police.

Responding officers noted the woman had bruising and swelling but she chose not to seek medical treatment.

Grosu claimed during court proceedings that he had little memory of the assault and that he had been talking loudly in Romanian, which caused his friends to leave.

He is currently living with friends in Coupar Angus after no longer residing at the original address.

The victim later told prosecutors she wished not to seek a non-harassment order, stating that the relationship was over.

Nonetheless, Sheriff Gillian Wade sentenced Grosu to a six-month order for her protection and imposed a fine of £540, effectively punishing him for the domestic assault.
