COREY BLISSETT SHOCKS WINLATON WITH BRUTAL GATESHEAD ASSAULTS

Corey Blissett, a 27-year-old resident of Greenrigg, Winlaton, found himself at the center of a disturbing series of violent incidents involving his former girlfriend. The first assault occurred within the confines of her home, where Blissett subjected her to a terrifying ordeal by grabbing her throat and restricting her breathing. Witnesses and court records revealed that he held her against a door for approximately 30 seconds, an act that must have been incredibly frightening and traumatic for her.

According to court proceedings, there was no apparent reason for Blissett's violent behavior during this initial attack. The judge, Recorder Geraldine Kelly, emphasized the severity of the incident, stating, "There was no reason at all for you to behave in the way you did - violently, aggressively - towards her. Grabbing her by the throat, pinning her against a door, obstructing her breathing for 30 seconds. It must have been terrifying for her."

Despite the first incident, Blissett appeared to calm down, but just six days later, the violence resumed after they had gone out for a meal together. Court reports indicated that Blissett, under the influence of alcohol and drugs, became aggressive once more. Witnesses described how he was shouting and screaming at his partner during what should have been a pleasant evening out.

During this second assault, Blissett reportedly grabbed her, called her abusive names, and then proceeded to physically attack her by repeatedly punching her in the face. He also grabbed her hair, pushed her to the ground, and forcibly held her chin, pushing her head to the side in a manner that led her to believe he was attempting to snap her neck. The victim sustained multiple injuries, including a large lump on her forehead, bruising and bleeding on her lips, as well as numerous marks on her arms and back.

In her victim impact statement, she expressed how the court process and listening to Blissett's falsehoods about what happened had further compounded her trauma. Despite being convicted of these violent acts, Blissett was ultimately sentenced to a suspended sentence at Newcastle Crown Court. The judge's remarks underscored the gravity of his actions, highlighting the unnecessary violence inflicted upon his partner and the lasting impact it has had on her life.
