DURHAM MAN SENT ABUSIVE AND THREATENING MESSAGES IN TWO-DAY RAGE
A man who sent a series of threatening and abusive messages to the partner of the man he was embroiled in a feud with landed himself in court.
Connor Edmundson threatened to kill the man, torch the woman’s home and smash his car into her home during a 48-hour campaign of abuse.
And when the 26-year-old was arrested, he drew a number of penises on the wall of his cell in the police station, Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court heard.
Adam Scott, prosecuting, said Edmundson was contacted by the partner of the man after he made an allegation of infidelity, and the defendant reacted angrily to that message.
He said: “The defendant sent a series of abuse messages threatening to burn the house down, to ‘end your lad’s life, come to the house with a weapon, and park a car straight through the house.” Mr Scott said the defendant was arrested several days later and managed to get a permanent marker into his cell where he caused £54.24 worth of damage by drawing penises on the wall.
The court heard how the two men had been involved in a long running feud sparked by earlier allegations of infidelity.
Edmundson, of Longhill Court, Browney, Durham, pleaded guilty to stalking without fear of violence in August and criminal damage in the police station on September 5.
Seyeda Begum, mitigating, said her client was suffering from psychosis at the time of his offending but fully accepts the impact of his behaviour and is thoroughly embarrassed.
She said: “He says he had no intention of carrying out the threats but that doesn’t take it away from the victim that she was fearful after the threats were made.” Kay Gilbert, chairwoman of the bench, sentenced Edmundson to an 18-month community order with 30 rehabilitation activity requirement days and a six-month drug rehabilitation requirement attached.
“We are going to go along with the report,” she said.
“There were the threats of violence, it was quite a nasty episode over those two days but you are given credit for your guilty plea.” The father-of-three was also issued with an 18-month restraining order and ordered to pay £253.24 in compensation and court costs.
