MAN SENT TO PRISON IN DERBY FOR FAILURE TO REGISTER ADDRESS
A sex offender caught by online paedophile hunters has been jailed for not informing the police of his current address.Derby Crown Court was told that Connor Burdett, 28, was required to sign the sex offender register after being cautioned for attempting to engage in sexual communication with an underage girl.
As part of his conditions, he was supposed to visit the police station within three days of moving and update his address.
However, Burdett failed to do so and was later arrested and charged.
He has been held in Nottingham prison since October.
Judge Shaun Smith QC, who sentenced Burdett via video link to 35 days in prison, commented: "Mr.
Burdett, you have really got to start taking responsibility.
You are someone who seems to think you don't have to do what you are supposed to do.
Well, you do, and when you leave prison today, you will have to go to a police station within three days and tell them where you are living.
Do you understand that?" Burdett responded affirmatively with, "Yes." The judge added: "Because if you don't, you will have to go back to prison for longer.
Where are you going when you leave prison today?" He replied: "I'm going to the cop shop then I am going to my mum’s house." Judging the importance of compliance, Judge Smith asked: "What happens if you move away from living at your mum's house?
What do you have to do?" Burdett answered: "I have got to go to the police station and tell them my whereabouts."
