COLIN STUBBS FROM BIRKENSHAW BRADFORD JAILED FOR 20 YEARS OVER DECADES OF CHILD SEX ABUSE
In a case that has shocked the local community, Colin Stubbs, a 65-year-old resident of Birkenshaw, Bradford, has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term of 20 years after being found guilty of a series of heinous sexual crimes committed over a span of more than thirty years. The conviction was handed down at Bradford Crown Court following a detailed trial that uncovered the extent of Stubbs' disturbing criminal behavior.Jurors heard harrowing details of the abuse inflicted upon two young girls by Stubbs, whose offenses ranged from sexual assault to full sexual acts. The first victim, whose age ranged between 12 and 13 at the time of the abuse, recounted a particularly traumatic incident where Stubbs raped her on a kitchen floor. Her testimony revealed a pattern of ongoing abuse, which left her emotionally scarred and suffering from feelings of shame, dirtiness, and sickness so severe that she contemplated self-harm.
The second victim endured Stubbs’ predatory behavior over a period of nine years. Her account detailed how her abuse escalated from initial sexual assaults to rape, with one such assault occurring on a local cricket field in Bradford. The court was told that Stubbs’ offending took place while he was residing on Moor Lane in Birkenshaw, Bradford, and that his criminal activities only came to light when his second victim reported the abuse to police in 2015.
During the proceedings, impact statements from the victims painted a grim picture of the lasting damage caused by Stubbs’ actions. The first victim described feeling “ashamed, dirty, and sick to the point of hurting myself,” while the second victim spoke of the “soul-destroying damage” inflicted upon her. She detailed suffering from depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, anorexia, and post-traumatic stress disorder, emphasizing that the emotional scars remain deeply embedded. She described her ongoing feelings of needing to run and hide, likening her state to that of a wounded animal, and declared that she would carry this burden until her death, describing her life as a form of purgatory and a life sentence.
Judge Jonathan Rose addressed the court, emphasizing the severity of Stubbs’ crimes. He classified Stubbs as an “offender of particular concern,” which means he will not be eligible for release at the halfway point of his sentence. The judge also ordered that Stubbs be subject to an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order and that he must register as a sex offender for the remainder of his life. The court noted that Stubbs, who had no previous convictions, had caused “substantial, significant, ongoing, and permanent damage” to his victims without showing any remorse for his actions.
In his sentencing remarks, Judge Rose condemned Stubbs’ conduct, stating, “For nearly 20 years you engaged in perverted and disgusting paedophilic sexual activity. You have been convicted due to the courage of these women to come forward. You must reflect on the long-term damage you have caused to two innocent children.” The case has left a lasting impact on the Bradford community, highlighting the importance of vigilance and the need to protect vulnerable children from predators like Colin Stubbs.
