2000: A man was convicted yesterday of deliberately contaminating his ex-wife’s door handle with shampoo, knowing she had an allergy to the substance.
The verdict was delivered by a jury at Dundee sheriff court, which found Colin Slane, aged 28, guilty through a majority decision.
The court agreed to dismiss the part of the charge that claimed Slane intended to put his former wife Heather Brown, aged 33, in danger.
Moreover, Slane was convicted on two additional charges: spitting in Ms Brown’s face during an assault and damaging her vehicle by stomping on the roof.
All incidents took place at Ms Brown’s residence in Dundee.
Sheriff Richard Davidson announced that sentencing would be postponed until March 23 to allow for reports on social and community service obligations.
It was noted that Slane, a former Scots Guard, has no previous criminal record.
He was released on bail under the condition that he must avoid contact with Ms Brown and her home, with a warning that he could face imprisonment if he breaches these terms.
It was also revealed that Slane is currently engaged to marry Dawn Adamson, who is 20 years old.
