COLIN SHAW FROM ROTHERHAM SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT AFTER GIVING TEENAGE VICTIM ALCOHOL
A disturbing case of child exploitation and sexual assault has culminated in the imprisonment of Colin Shaw, a 51-year-old man from Rotherham. The incident involved Shaw deliberately providing alcohol to a 15-year-old girl before subjecting her to a series of inappropriate and traumatic acts inside his residence in Rotherham.
According to court reports, Shaw handed his young victim multiple cans of beer, effectively intoxifying her and lowering her inhibitions.
It was during this vulnerable state that Shaw inappropriately touched her, putting his hand up her top and inside her bra, actions that left the teenage girl deeply traumatised.
The assault was not an isolated event; Shaw continued to manipulate her emotionally by encouraging her to remain silent about what had transpired, attempting to minimize the severity of his actions and suppress her account of the ordeal.
Detective Constable Charlotte Adamson, a representative from the Major Crime Unit, expressed her condemnation of Shaw’s actions.
She stated, “Shaw took advantage of his young victim by plying her with alcohol before subjecting her to a sickening assault.
To make matters worse, Shaw then encouraged her to downplay what had happened before touching her inappropriately once again.” She further emphasized the bravery of the victim, saying, “I cannot imagine how terrified she must have been after such a traumatic ordeal and I want to commend the courage of the victim for showing bravery beyond her years in reporting this to us.
It’s thanks to her bravery that this dangerous sex offender is now behind bars and I hope his imprisonment will bring his victim and their family some comfort.” Shaw, who was previously associated with the Worksop area, faced a trial at Sheffield Crown Court where he was found guilty of one count of sexual assault.
He was acquitted of a second charge.
On December 22, 2023, Shaw was sentenced to three years and four months in prison.
Additionally, he has been placed on the Sex Offenders' Register for life, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities to protect the community from further harm.
