COLIN SANDON EX-OFFICER FROM NETLEY SENTENCED FOR SEX ABUSE AGAINST YOUNG GIRLS IN HAMPSHIRE
In a case that has shocked the local community of Netley and the wider Hampshire area, retired police officer Colin Sandon has been sentenced to four years in prison following his conviction on multiple counts of sexual misconduct. The offences, which involved a systematic campaign of abuse against two young girls, were detailed during a court hearing at the Old Bailey, revealing a disturbing pattern of exploitation that spanned several years.Colin Sandon, aged 64 and a resident of Netley, Hampshire, had a lengthy career in law enforcement, serving as a police constable for two decades before transitioning into a civilian role within the police force. Despite his years of service, his actions in this case have led to a severe breach of trust and a criminal conviction that has left a lasting scar on the victims and the community.
The court heard that Sandon began abusing one of the girls when she was just six years old, with the abuse continuing over an extended period. The allegations included five counts of indecent assault and three counts of gross indecency, all of which Sandon was found guilty of last month. The judge, Paul Focke, delivered a stern verdict, emphasizing the betrayal of trust involved in the case.
During the sentencing, Judge Focke stated, “You betrayed your position of trust and systematically abused them when the opportunity to do so arose. You completely disregarded the psychological scarring which each would or might sustain as a result.” The judge also highlighted the devastating impact the abuse has had on one of the victims, describing it as having a profoundly damaging effect on her life.
As part of his punishment, Sandon was ordered to serve four years in prison. Additionally, he was banned from working with children in any capacity and was placed on the sexual offenders register, marking a significant step in ensuring public safety and preventing further harm. The case has brought to light the importance of vigilance and accountability within institutions meant to protect the vulnerable, and it serves as a stark reminder of the potential for betrayal by those in positions of authority.
