COLIN REID FROM CARDONALD, GLASGOW, DENIED APPEAL OVER CHILD ABUSE CONVICTIONS

On April 29, 1998, Colin Turnbull Reid, a man residing in Cardonald, Glasgow, was convicted on two serious charges involving the abuse of young girls. The court found him guilty of engaging in lewd, indecent, and libidinous conduct on multiple occasions, with the incidents spanning over several years.

His first set of offenses involved a girl aged between 4 and 8 years old, with the abuse occurring at various times from June 8, 1992, to October 12, 1996. The evidence presented in court included detailed testimonies from the girl herself, describing the inappropriate acts committed by Reid during this period.

The second set of charges related to his conduct towards her younger sister, who was between 2 and 4 years old at the time. These incidents took place between January 1, 1995, and October 12, 1996. The younger girl also provided evidence, revealing that Reid had inserted his finger into her private parts and had masturbated in her presence, ejaculating semen during the act.

In the case of the older girl, the allegations were particularly disturbing. It was claimed that Reid had coerced her into handling his private parts and had masturbated him, again resulting in semen emission. Furthermore, he allegedly threatened her with violence should she disclose his misconduct to anyone, adding a layer of intimidation and fear to the abuse.

The court's judge reviewed Reid’s appeal against his conviction but concluded that it was unfounded and lacked merit. As a result, the appeal was formally refused, and Reid’s conviction stood. This case highlights the serious nature of the crimes committed and the judicial system’s stance on protecting vulnerable children from such heinous acts.
