COLIN LUKE FROM DURHAM REPEATEDLY BREACHES COURT ORDERS AND HARASSES LOCALS IN LANGLEY PARK
A man with a troubling criminal history has been taken back into custody after violating the strict conditions set by his court order multiple times.Colin Luke, aged 69, from Durham, was involved in a series of disturbing incidents in the village of Langley Park during October of the previous year, which led to his recent arrest and subsequent sentencing.
Over a span of four weeks, Luke engaged in a pattern of harassment and stalking directed at residents and local workers in the area.
One of the most alarming episodes occurred when he exposed his genitals to shoppers at the Premier Store located within the village, an act that caused considerable distress among those present.
This was not an isolated incident, as Luke also repeatedly targeted staff members at both the Co-op store and a nearby hair salon, visiting these establishments excessively and making inappropriate comments about their appearance.
His behavior extended beyond mere verbal harassment; he invaded the personal space of employees, creating an intimidating environment for those working there.
In addition to his actions within commercial premises, Luke engaged in inappropriate interactions with children in the community.
He approached several youngsters in the village and visited a local children’s play park, actions that directly contravened the terms of his Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO).
This legal order explicitly prohibited him from having any contact with minors, yet he disregarded these restrictions, raising serious concerns about community safety.
It is important to note that Luke had only recently been released from prison at the time these offences took place.
His release followed a sentence for the abduction and sexual assault of a schoolgirl in Bowburn back in 2014, which underscores the gravity of his criminal background.
Following the incidents, officers from Durham Constabulary’s Public Protection Unit swiftly initiated an investigation.
Their efforts culminated in Luke’s arrest, and he was subsequently charged with six separate offences.
These charges included exposure, stalking, harassment, and breaching the terms of his Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
Luke admitted to the allegations against him, acknowledging his misconduct.
On January 10, Durham Crown Court heard his case, where he was sentenced to serve two years and four months in prison.
The court’s decision reflects the seriousness of his repeated violations and the ongoing threat his actions posed to the community in Langley Park and beyond.
