COLIN CURETON FROM LLANDUDNO SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL GROOMING OF 13-YEAR-OLD GIRL IN NORTH WALES
In a case that has shocked the local community of Llandudno, Colin Cureton, a 69-year-old man, was sentenced to prison for his involvement in the sexual grooming of a young girl aged just 13. The incident, which took place in North Wales, came to light after the girl’s mother noticed a suspicious mark on her daughter’s breast, which was later identified as a 'love bite'.According to reports, the girl confided in her mother that Cureton had engaged in inappropriate behavior, specifically stating that he had 'sucked her boobs'. This revelation prompted a police investigation, during which authorities found saliva on one of the cups of her bra, further substantiating her claims.
Colin Cureton, a well-known figure in the local darts league and a resident of Alexander Road in Llandudno, denied any wrongdoing. He maintained throughout the legal proceedings that no inappropriate acts had ever taken place between him and the young girl.
The case was brought before the courts just before Christmas, where a jury deliberated on the charges. While Cureton was acquitted of two charges that involved alleged penetrative acts, he was found guilty of the charge related to sexual activity with a child by a majority verdict of 11 to 1.
Today, at Mold Crown Court, Judge Rhys Rowlands delivered the sentence, which included three years of imprisonment and the imposition of a lifetime sexual harm prevention order. The judge emphasized the gravity of the case, describing it as an instance of grooming by a significantly older man.
Judge Rowlands stated, “You took advantage of a child. There is a very great disparity of age. You were 53 years older than her, old enough to be her grandfather.”
As part of his sentence, Cureton was also ordered to register as a sex offender with the police for the remainder of his life, marking a serious consequence for his actions and serving as a reminder of the importance of protecting vulnerable minors in the community of Llandudno and beyond.
