COLEEN CAMPBELL INVOLVED IN BRUTAL STREET ATTACK IN ASHTON-UNDER-LYNE

Coleen Campbell, a woman with a troubling criminal history, has recently appeared before the courts in connection with a violent assault that took place on the streets of Ashton-under-Lyne. The incident involved her and three other individuals—two women named Hannah Derbyshire and Chloe Bamford, along with a man named Simon Bowden—who collectively targeted a woman named Niamh Wasik in a brutal attack.

According to court reports, the assault was driven by a love rivalry, specifically a complicated love triangle involving a man named James Heaney. It was alleged that both Derbyshire and Wasik had been involved in romantic relationships with Heaney, which reportedly fueled the violence that ensued. The court heard that Campbell, aged 41, was armed with a hammer during the assault, a detail that underscores the severity and brutality of the attack.

Witnesses and CCTV footage confirmed that Campbell used the hammer to strike Ms. Wasik multiple times, causing her to fall to the ground. Once she was incapacitated, the attackers continued their assault, kicking her repeatedly. The footage captured the entire incident, showing the four assailants arriving in a car, launching their attack, and then fleeing the scene after approximately 90 seconds. During the chaos, Campbell was seen stealing Ms. Wasik’s handbag, which was later recovered from her home. As the attackers made their escape, a rock was thrown at their vehicle, smashing the windscreen and adding to the scene’s violence.

When questioned by police, all four involved in the attack either lied or refused to comment, complicating efforts to establish a full account of the incident. The attack has shocked the local community and added to the ongoing concerns about violence linked to personal disputes in the area.

It is important to note that Coleen Campbell’s criminal record is extensive. She was previously serving a 13-year prison sentence for the murder of her ex-husband, Thomas Campbell. Thomas was brutally tortured to death in his home after being ambushed by three men as he opened his door in Mossley on July 2, 2022. Campbell, who was involved in drug dealing, sustained severe injuries during the incident and was found dead the following day. Her ex-wife, Thomas’s murderer, was convicted of manslaughter and conspiracy to rob in 2023, having provided information to the killers about Thomas’s whereabouts, which facilitated his murder.

Two men connected to the robbery and killing were convicted—one for murder and another for manslaughter. A third man accused of murder is awaiting trial. Campbell’s ex-wife received a guilty verdict, and other individuals involved, including Bowden and Bamford, received various sentences. Campbell and Bowden were sentenced to 18 months each, while Derbyshire and Bamford received suspended sentences of 16 and 10 months respectively, along with community service and rehabilitation requirements.

Recently, Coleen Campbell was informed that her involvement in the street attack, which occurred just days before her ex-husband’s murder, would not impact her scheduled release date in May 2031. This case highlights a pattern of violent, revenge-driven crimes that continue to plague the Ashton-under-Lyne area, with Campbell’s role in the recent attack representing a significant chapter in her ongoing legal struggles.
