ABINGDON PAEDOPHILE CLIVE KEEP SENTENCED FOR THOUSANDS OF INDECENT IMAGES AND ONLINE PREDATION

In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Abingdon, a pensioner named Clive Keep has been found guilty of possessing a vast collection of indecent images of children and engaging in online activities that promote child abuse. The incident came to light after police executed a search warrant at Keep's residence, revealing a disturbing cache of over 3,500 indecent images and 30 obscene cartoons depicting minors.

Keep, aged 72, was detected after he engaged in online deception, pretending to be another individual under the alias 'Dave Morgan.' During this online interaction, he communicated with a mother who had offered her children for sexual abuse, revealing his sinister intentions. Prosecutors detailed that Keep's online persona expressed a desire to harm children, with evidence linking his email address to the 'Dave Morgan' account.

The police investigation was initiated when authorities monitored online conversations and identified Keep's involvement. It was revealed that he had been speaking in a chat room, where he discussed his disturbing fantasies and intentions. The conversation included explicit descriptions of what he wanted to do to the children, according to prosecutor Cathy Olliver.

On June 19, 2015, law enforcement officers raided Keep's home in Abingdon, seizing two laptops. During the search, Keep attempted to cover his tracks by installing an 'evidence eliminator' software designed to erase his online activity. Despite these efforts, police found multiple indecent images stored on external drives, some of which depicted babies and children up to 14 years old. However, these external drives were not recovered during the search.

Keep admitted to officers that he had used online disguises and claimed that he did not have a sexual interest in children, asserting that his fantasies were purely mental. He expressed remorse for his actions, stating that he considered such fantasies 'abhorrent.' His defense lawyer, Lucy Ffrench, emphasized that Keep, who suffers from bone marrow cancer (multiple myeloma), had led a 'blameless' life working in the nuclear industry and had no prior convictions.

Despite his claims, the court found him guilty of three counts of making indecent images of children and one count of possessing prohibited images. Judge Ian Pringle QC sentenced Keep to a two-year community order, which includes a 25-day rehabilitation activity requirement. The judge also emphasized the harm caused by such images, stating, 'By having these images, you are creating a market and that market will damage, often very young, children.'

Furthermore, Keep was ordered to sign the sex offenders register, and a sexual harm prevention order was imposed to restrict his future activities. The court also ordered the forfeiture and destruction of the seized laptops to prevent further dissemination of such material.
