NAILSEA CHURCH TREASURER CLIVE BILLMORE JAILED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT ON 11-YEAR-OLD GIRL

In January 2017, a disturbing incident unfolded involving Clive Billmore, a church treasurer from Nailsea, who was convicted of sexually assaulting an 11-year-old girl. The young victim recounted that Billmore approached her while she was lying in her bed, an act that caused her significant distress and fear.

According to court proceedings at Bristol Crown Court, the girl described how Billmore touched her inappropriately over her pajamas, specifically targeting her genital area. The assault lasted approximately 30 seconds, during which he also moved his hands to her chest, further violating her personal boundaries. The court heard that Billmore, aged 59 and residing on Brooking Meadow in Nailsea, denied any wrongdoing despite the evidence presented against him.

Judge William Hart addressed Billmore directly, expressing his concern over the nature of the offense. He stated, “You are a man with a sexual interest in young girls. It was far from the most serious sort of touching. But she has had the experience of being abused.” The judge emphasized the lasting impact such abuse can have on a young victim, highlighting the emotional and psychological scars left behind.

As a result of his conviction for sexual activity with a child under 13, Billmore was sentenced to a year in prison. Additionally, he was ordered to register as a sex offender for a period of ten years. The court also imposed a ban on him working with children and vulnerable adults, aiming to prevent any further harm.

Prosecutor Giles Nelson referenced a statement provided by the victim, which detailed not only the assault itself but also the subsequent fear and trauma experienced during the investigation and legal process. The case underscores the importance of safeguarding children and holding offenders accountable for their actions, especially within community institutions like churches where trust is paramount.
